We use a number of criteria to select the subjects of case studies. We consider the themes that emerge during the dialogue with shareholders in relation to the requirements we believe case studies should meet, such as relevance for customers, focus on dilemmas, current events, and relevance to CSR, before selecting case studies . Each case study was discussed with numerous stakeholders.
Not surprisingly, sport is regarded worldwide as an important if not the most important side issue, and a means of achieving a better world. It triggers emotions, binds people with different backgrounds and provides many opportunities for personal development. Regrettably, however, sport is also linked to vandalism, doping, black money and fuel gobbling motor cars.
How does Rabobank deal with client’s CSR practices? How do we speak to them about unwanted practices? And where are the confines of our responsibility?
Fish is an important source of food. We would like to keep it that way, because fish is healthy and the supply chain of fish in general is less of a burden on the environment than the production of meat. Based on current fishing practices, however – which cause overfishing and bycatch discards – that is not going to happen.
The greenhouse horticultural sector is traditionally known as a bulk user of energy. But the sector is very busy putting an end to this.
Worldwide, 70% of the total quantity of fresh water is used in agriculture, particularly irrigation. Given the vital role water plays in society, Rabobank devotes extra attention to sectors using considerable amounts of water. The cotton sector is an example of this.
Rabobank has had a diversity policy for many years. We know from experience, however, that diversity does not just happen. The human rights theme ‘discrimination’ drawn up in 2007 can help stimulate diversity in the personnel mix.
