Rabobank is firmly committed to achieving maximum client value, and that commitment has proved to be fully compatible with our commitment to CSR.

Given that we are a cooperative bank we are in an excellent position to achieve both goals - because shareholder value is not the primary target for which we are held to account. We take a longer-term view of our relationships, an approach which helps us generate better value for our clients in the long run.

The integration of CSR in payments, savings and loans is still in an early stage. A start has been made on the development of special sustainable versions of conventional products and services for our Dutch clients, such as the Rabo Climate Mortgage, the Rabocard credit card with climate compensation, and the Rabo Green Savings account. Although the market for these products is still small, demand is growing. Rabobank International’s Project Financing Department mainly engages in the funding and/or leasing of renewable energy and other sustainable projects, including Green Label Glasshouses, biofuel facilities and wind farms. In the Netherlands, Rabo Green Bank is the leading provider of financing to environmentally friendly projects, approved by the Dutch government.

The Rabobank Group facilitates emissions trading through CLIMEX, an electronic trading platform. CLIMEX also organises auctions of CO2 credits for a range of European public-sector organisations. Rabobank International’s Commodity & Weather Derivatives Group trades in CO2 rights and certified emission rights for large corporate customers.
