Sustainable Procurement

Rabobank acknowledges the importance of sustainability in its procurement processes. By critically examining its procurement policy, Rabobank Group is able to exercise considerable influence on the environmental and social aspects of both the production processes and the products procured.

We also expect from our business partners to be committed to sustainability. Accordingly we request them to sign a sustainability statement (see downloads).

Rabobank has carried out a CSR scan to assess all procurement packages according to sustainability criteria in order to reveal any matters that require special attention. Criteria include the social conditions during production, the packaging, the energy consumed when using the product and any environmentally harmful materials that are produced in the product’s waste phase.

The share of organic products compared to Rabobank Nederland’s total catering assortment was 64% in 2010. The fresh coffee beans used in coffee machines at Rabobank Nederland are sourced from plantations that are financed by the Rabobank Foundation and that have received the Max Havelaar EKO certification mark. The tea served within Rabobank Nederland likewise carries a quality mark.

Rabobank Nederland distributes approximately five million magazines to members, customers and employees each year. The use of traditional cellophane packaging is harmful to the environment and the production of these materials consumes a great deal of energy. This is why Rabobank Nederland joined forces with the related supplier to develop sustainable packaging. This packaging is biodegradable and the related production process produces substantially lower CO2 emissions.
