Argentinas beef sector
In early March 2006, after failing to achieve a decline in domestic beef prices via various artificial measures and just overcoming a new FMD outbreak, Argentina's government announced the banning of most beef exports. While the ban is intended to place the domestic markets in a privileged supply situation, hence lowering internal prices, the effects aren't specific to the beef sector as the ban carries immediate implications to other animal proteins and to the agribusiness sector in general.
