Can Brazilian beef production meet growing demand
25-1-2007 |
Sao Paulo's FAR analyst Paulo Carletti finds in his Industry Note that there are three main factors affecting the scale of the upturn in the Brazilian cattle cycle. First, the increasing rate of cow slaughter and the decrease in calf replacement. Second, the recovery of cattle and calf prices and third, improved cattle productivity is enabling more beef to be supplied from fewer cattle. The question is whether the Brazilian cattle market will be able to supply the demand for beef, and what the impact will be on local animal prices and packers margins.
