Various predictions are being made regarding the forecasted volumes cod farmers will produce in the short and long term. Despite substantial technological advances, supply side factors, including capital availability, will continue to constitute key constraints in the short term.
Excess demand for cod in the fresh/chilled market is expected at present and in the near future. The positioning of farmed cod within the larger frozen white fish market and consumer preference for cod versus a myriad of competing farmed and wild-caught species will be the determining variables in the longer term.
