The discovery of the fact that berries contain high antioxidant levels, which help protect the body against illnesses such as heart disease and cancer, has led to an overall increase in demand for berries, particularly blueberries. This has benefitted the Canadian berry segment and it is expected that the demand for Canadian berries will continue to grow in the domestic and U.S. markets, albeit at a more gradual pace than in recent years, as consumers react to higher prices.
