Sustainable construction
Rabobank Nederland is building its new offices in Utrecht (ready in 2010). The objectives of this new building are to:
- Limit the demand for construction materials, space, energy and water
- Use infinite resources, such as wood bearing the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) quality mark
- Use finite resources that are recyclable
The aim is to construct one of the most sustainable buildings in the Netherlands.
Cold storage forms a standard part of new construction and renovation projects in Utrecht and Best.
Detailed schedules of requirements have been compiled for service offices, bank shops and the larger advice centres. The local member banks can employ these schedules for any new construction projects. The schedule incorporates various targets including:
- An energy performance norm (EPN) that is at least 10% lower than legally required
- Use of FSC-certified wood
- Preventing the use of heavy metals such as lead and zinc
The lighting policy sets clear standards for energy consumption and devotes extra attention to working conditions. This ensures an optimum relationship between low-energy lighting and a good working environment.
