Asia - Agro Bank Malaysia
The government of this South Asian country established the Bank Pertanian Malaysia (BPM) agricultural bank in 1969. BPM changed its name to Agro Bank Malaysia (ABM) on 8 April 2008. Rabo Development and Rabobank International are jointly providing advisory services with regard to the privatisation of ABM. The aim of this process is to strengthen ABM’s market position in the agricultural market and to expand the range of banking services to include the SME and retail markets.
Two Rabo Development long-termers were deployed to work at ABM in February 2008. In addition, a number of short-termers will be travelling to the capital city of Kuala Lumpur to provide technical assistance in relation to specific fields of expertise such as credit risk management, product development and corporate governance. This support constitutes a key component of the change process that ABM is currently undergoing.
