Chile's wine production has doubled over the past 15 years to nearly 8 million hectolitres in 2005. During the same period the Chilean wine industry has been succesful in repositioning itself as an important supplier of good popular premium and premium wines on the export market. Chile's competitive advantage in the international wine industry stems from its climate, low-cost price and low disease pressure. In order for the industry to continue successful growth in the competitive international market these advantages need to be complemented with strong brands, marketing and distribution.
