Indian bananas
Given its production strengths in suitable varieties and low cost of production, India has the potential to significantly increase banana exports. Government bodies, traders and grower associations need to focus on an integrated approach to addressing issues along the supply chain, specifically in the area of post-harvest infrastructure. In addition, sustained effort is required to promote Indian bananas in the Middle East and neighbouring countries (short term) and the EU (medium to long term). Large multinationals have opportunities too to assist in enhancing India's exports in bananas.
