Fresh-cut Fruits and Vegetables January 2009

The fresh-cut fruit and vegetable (F&V) segment has contributed significantly to the F&V market’s value growth in recent years. Fresh-cut F&V has been growing in nearly all EU countries, though markets show different stages of development. The main growth drivers are changing consumer lifestyles, which emphasise both convenience and healthy living, and technological innovations, which have improved processing, packaging and logistics. While the trends driving the segment’s growth are unlikely to reverse, the credit crisis could harm it in the short term as consumers trade down to lower-cost options.
