Global sweet cherry trade has seen marked growth in the past decade, but dynamics remain seasonal. Global production hit a record high in 2024, but growth will slow.

Intro

Global sweet cherry production reached a new maximum of 4.5m metric tons in 2024. Global trade has experienced marked growth in the past 10 years, although it reflects the highly seasonal dynamics of Northern Hemisphere demand. China remains the leader in production, although area continues to decline. Chile remains the leader in exports and is expected to continue to grow production and exports, albeit at lower rates. China, the main destination market, imported record volumes in the 2024/25 season, which led to low prices for Chilean producers and put pressure on the following seasons.
