Bank of England: 5-4; 4-5; or 4-4-1?
The Bank of England cut Bank Rate by 25bp to 3.75%, as expected, with a 5-4 split and Governor Bailey casting the swing vote. The MPC reiterated that rates are “likely to continue on a gradual downward path,” but warned each move will be a “closer call.” Bailey cited progress on disinflation but insufficient evidence on wages and expectations. We still forecast two 25bp cuts in February and April 2026, though timing remains highly data-dependent.
