In recent years, housing policy has become an increasingly intense political battlefield as house prices have risen faster than wages and advertised rents rose dramatically in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. The idea that Australia is in the grip of a “housing crisis” is now popularly accepted and has become a common theme in the media.
