Our mission is to provide developing societies with improved access to financial services, employing cooperative principles and banking expertise. We want to reach the unbanked whether they are smallholders, SME’s or private individuals.
With our cooperative roots and focus on financing the global food & agri business sector, supporting rural economies abroad is a natural fit for Rabobank. By providing millions of customers in developing countries with access to affordable financial services through our Rabo Development work, we are creating an extensive network of partner banks. These partners serve clients in all market segments, from individual farmers to small and medium-sized enterprises.
Rabo Development offers three types of development support: capital, management services and technical assistance.
We form strategic alliances with our partners in Brazil, Mozambique, Paraguay, Rwanda, Uganda, Tanzania and Zambia, providing capital for the long term. Our approach is to collaborate as a minority shareholder and engaged board member, rather than acting as a controlling majority shareholder. By holding a minority interest, we ensure our partners benefit from our insights while remaining domestically owned. Rabo Development also advises on projects in, amongst others, South Africa, India and Vietnam.
