Germany: Stuck in neutral, or shifting gears?

Germany’s upcoming federal election sees traditional parties challenged by populist insurgents, underscoring the need for a fundamental rethink of its economic model. To stay relevant, Germany must align its economic strategy with foreign policy and national security goals. Yet this election cycle has exposed a leadership stuck in the past, lacking a clear vision to leverage the country’s economic strengths. While fiscal brakes may ease, a true fiscal ‘Zeitenwende’ remains unlikely, and any support for Eurobonds will likely be limited to defense.
