About Rabo Rural Fund

Over one billion people worldwide are living in poverty. Three quarters of them live in rural areas and are dependent on agricultural production. That’s why strengthening producer organizations and agricultural companies (SMEs) is crucial in the battle against poverty.

These farming organizations and their small-scale farmers are essential to food security, because smallholders produce more than 80 percent of the food consumed in large parts of the developing world. The problem for many of these farming organizations is that they experience difficulties in securing commercial investment. They have outgrown grants, micro-credit and soft loans but do not qualify for a standard bank loan. And access to finance is important for their growth.

The Rabo Rural Fund aims to close this funding gap by offering organizations and farmers access to finance, networks and knowledge. This is how we are contributing to sustainable economic development, a better income for small-scale farmers and to food security.
