ECB comment: June or never?
The ECB left its policy unchanged after the Governing Council concluded that they didn’t have enough information yet. President Lagarde said that policymakers will know enough in the next six weeks to decide. This puts a lot of emphasis on the June meeting. It suggests that if the ECB does not raise rates by then, it may not hike at all. Lagarde kept all options open, but her comment that “I think I know where we are headed” seems to foreshadow a rate hike.
