Energy generation and infrastructure
Clean energy requires the use of renewable sources, such as wind, solar and biomass. Since generating energy from these sources plays such a major role in the energy transition, Rabobank has set an ambitious agenda for the energy portfolio. For instance, we are investing in innovative technologies such as battery storage and geothermal energy. Next to supporting sustainable energy generation we want to help improving and developing sustainable energy infrastructure.
Our services
Rabobank was one of the first project financiers of offshore wind. We are a leader in this sector and we use our knowledge and experience to help our customers and projects move forward. Besides offshore wind projects, Project Finance deals with onshore wind, solar parks and biomass projects worldwide. In the Netherlands, we are also a leader in financing geothermal projects.
Rabo Investments is our captive investment franchise. Through capital solutions (equity, fund investments, subordinated debt and scale-up financing), we support companies in realising their growth ambitions, in line with our own mission: Growing a better world together. We contribute to the energy transition by for example investing in large battery storages.
As Rabobank, we support local energy cooperatives. In different areas in the Netherlands we established energy cooperative desks. No matter what stage of your project the cooperative is in, we support them with knowledge through the platform 'de Projectcentrale', by opening a bank account, arranging insurance and financing, and sometimes by a donation from our cooperative dividend.

Corporate Power Purchase Agreements (PPA’s): Counterparty risk coverage to realize renewable projects
Rabobank's PPAssurance is a financial solution that addresses counterparty risks in renewable energy projects, supporting the energy transition as subsidies phase out. The first deal using this structure was signed in 2022 between Klimaatfonds Nederland and Scholt Energy.
